The reopening of the Smithsonian Arts and Industries building-the first National Museum-will happen this Memorial Day weekend after a decade under construction. The historic debut will be commemorated with the exhibit Crosslines--a Culture Lab on Intersectionality. Presented by the Asian Pacific American Center, the exhibit brings together 40+ artists and scholars, converting the Smithsonian into-- a museum of the people.
“Circles and Circuits,” an art projection installation featuring visual works by Chinese Caribbean artists, will be presented by the Chinese American Museum of Los Angeles. Maria Lau will be a featured artist for C.A.M.L.A. exhibiting her cultural identity work on Cuban-Chinese as part of the project “71. A Cuban-Chinese Journey”
The video feature of Maria Lau, is also a preview for the "Pacific Standard Time" initiative. Led by the Getty, "Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA" is a far-reaching and ambitious exploration of Latin American and Latino art in dialogue with Los Angeles, which will begin September 15, 2017, and continue through January 31, 2018. "Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA" will present a wide variety of important works of art, many of them new to Southern California audiences.
Maria Lau will be a part of the Crosslines art tour discussing her work for "Asian-Latino Encounters" taking place from 12-2 p.m. on May 28th.
CrossLines is free and open to the public at the Smithsonian Arts and Industries Building Saturday and Sunday, May 28–29, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
